Our RealCare infant simulator materials from Realityworks have continued to be very popular with our family and consumer science and health educators, so we have added some new items. First is the RealCare Choking Baby simulator. It is a hands-on tool to teach the correct technique and force needed to dislodge an object from an infant’s windpipe. The kit contains a curriculum that instructs on proper hand placement and force. This simulator (Item #849362) may be checked out through the Medianet catalog.
We also have purchased a RealCare Fetal Development Kit (Item #849487). This kit allows students to get an in-depth look at embryo and fetal development by touching, feeling and examining a detailed, life-size model of each fetal development stage. A comprehensive, 3-lesson curriculum is also included. This kit has not yet been added into the Medianet system, but it will be available soon.
Realityworks also just announced the release of a new product, the RealCare Preemie Baby (Item #849957). Modeled after a preterm infant born at 30 weeks, the RealCare Preemie Baby is a non-electronic manikin designed to help students, caregivers and parents-to-be understand the unique challenges and often complicated medical problems that can be associated with preterm birth. We are in the process of purchasing some of these preemies, and they should be available for checkout next school year.
Due to deteriorating condition, we will be retiring our Empathy Belly kits at the end of this school year. However, we do have the Pregnancy Profile Vests (Item #004013) that are similar.
